This summer Maggie has had a hard time fighting off infections and random fevers. She got Strep Throat just before a family cruise vacation. The round of antibiotics were completed and she thought she was in the clear. While on the cruise, she got very sick. As soon as we were on dry ground, Maggie was taken to the ER where it was discovered that her blood counts were in critical levels. She was given four units of blood to stabilize her as they team of doctors worked to figure out the cause.
She was diagnosed with AML which is an aggressive leukemia. She will start chemotherapy on Saturday. The chemo will be a continuous slow drip for 7 days in hopes to kill ALL of the leukemia. After the chemo she will begin the rebuild phase with blood, plasma, and platelet transfusions. She will have the bone marrow biopsy repeated to make sure she is leukemia free. There is a 70-80% chance that ALL LEUKEMIA will be killed after the first round of chemo.
Although Maggie is beginning treatment, we are still awaiting results from the bone marrow biopsy to see if she has a genetic predisposition that would require her to have a bone marrow transplant for complete healing. PLEASE PRAY for those result to be 100% certain that a bone marrow transplant is NOT needed.
Maggie is a fighter! Maggie continues to say I may have "Bad Blood" like the Taylor Swift song BUT I have Jesus in my heart and His Spirit running through my veins — HE will heal her. We believe it and we need all of you to believe it and pray along with us.
